Why Verkio
Quiet by design.
Open standards, calm defaults, one address book, full export. Four choices most suites get backwards.
- Standards-first.
- IMAP, SMTP, CalDAV, CardDAV from day one. Use Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Outlook, k-9, or DAVx⁵ — we don't lock you into our app.
- Quiet.
- No AI features scanning your mail. No engagement notifications. No 'you might be interested in' upsell. We don't compete for your attention — we get out of your way.
- One suite, one address book.
- Mail, calendar, contacts, docs, wikis — one login, one address book, one bill. Not five products bolted together with single sign-on.
- Yours to leave.
- Full export in open formats anytime. GDPR Article 20 made real, not a support-ticket process. No ransom on the way out.

Negative space
Things we deliberately don't have.
Verkio is defined as much by what we leave out.
- AI features that quietly read your mail.
- Engagement metrics counting how addicted you are.
- Read receipts that work differently in every client.
- A 'team activity' feed nobody asked for.
- 'Smart' inbox categorisation hiding your mail.
- Data brokers anywhere in the subprocessor list.
Residency
Where your data lives.
Every layer of the stack — storage, keys, DNS, vendors — sits inside the EU.
EU-owned infrastructure
Stored, processed, and backed up inside the EU, on infrastructure owned and operated by European companies.
Encrypted at rest
Encryption keys live in an EU-located KMS we operate, included by default — not an upgrade tier.
EU-resolving DNS
The lookups that point you at our servers stay in Europe, too.
European jurisdiction
EU jurisdiction, GDPR-native by design. Access requests run through European legal channels.
European subprocessors
Email delivery, payments, support — every vendor in the data path is EU-domiciled. The list is published; changes get 30 days' notice.

Where is the data actually hosted?
Inside the EU, full stop. Primary storage, backups, and all processing happen on EU infrastructure. No replicas leave the bloc.
What about the US CLOUD Act?
Verkio is a Swedish company with no US presence, so the CLOUD Act doesn't apply to us. Foreign access requests go through Swedish and EU legal channels.
Will it work with Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird?
Yes. Verkio is standards-based — IMAP, SMTP, CalDAV, CardDAV — so any modern client connects directly.
When does Verkio launch?
July 2026. Join the waitlist and we'll be in touch when accounts open.
Can I migrate from Google Workspace or Microsoft 365?
Yes. Migration tools for mail, calendar, contacts, and documents are part of the launch plan.
How is pricing structured?
Per-seat monthly or annual billing in EUR, with no per-feature surcharges. Specifics ship with the launch.
Do you use any US-based subprocessors?
Our goal is none in the data path. We publish a current subprocessor list at launch and flag any change before it happens.
What happens to my data if I leave?
Full export in standard formats. No lock-in, no ransom on the way out.
Is Verkio open-source?
The client side is built on open standards so any compliant tool works. We'll share more on the backend approach closer to launch.
Do you have AI features?
No. We have features.
From the founder
Hi, I'm Benji. I built Verkio because every time Gmail rolled out a new AI feature my IT-admin friends sighed a little harder. I think email should be boring, yours, and built to last decades — and that the only sustainable way to build that is from inside the EU, on open standards, by a small company that doesn't need to grow forever. If that resonates, join the waitlist.
